Despite the fact that for many years used when terminating foam voids, insulation, restoration of trenches and for the manufacture of building blocks, it is still perceived as fragile and short-lived material. However, it may have a relatively high density, strength and durability and used as a structural material.

Over the past fifty years, the use of foam concrete in construction was limited solely to its non-structural application, for example, when filling voids and restoration of trenches, with heat insulation and manufacturing units.    During the past fifteen years, researchers from the University of Pretoria (South Africa) determine the properties of foam concrete and set parameters that affect these properties. This article discusses some of the properties of foam and possible areas of application.
  
   Foam strength
   There are no standard methods of foam concrete mix design. For normal concrete consumer assigns compressive strength, and this condition is ensured by adjusting water-cement ratio. Since the foam is very sensitive to variations in water content, water-cement ratio in the foam concrete can not be used to control the compressive strength. If the foam concrete mixture in water is insufficient to provide an initial reaction of cement, the latter begins to withdraw water from the foam, thus leading to its rapid coalescence. If too much water, then the segregation, leading to large differences in the density [1].
   When designed foam that is generally considered not only the strength but also the density. Since the compressive strength of the foam is a function of density, the latter can be used to adjust the strength. By reducing the density of the materials used for the production of foam, void volume required to achieve the desired density, can be reduced, thereby increasing the strength of foam concrete in compression [2].
